Submersible Feature

An attempt to capture the momentary nature of a soft urban water feature, and to instead cast its ornateness as a toxic plume. Implied in such a macro depiction is a conversant implication of a living organism and how a subject is literally larger than life size, while metaphorically being distant in its intended scale.

Orb, Nothing, Zero

Collation of spheric, circular and orbulus forms, in sequence, as an emblem for squaring the circle — a form of binary communication which highlights the role of OCR software, bringing into question the purpose of digital images and machine-readable, searchable, retrievable, and editable data.

Line Painters

Line painters apply surface markings to communicate information on roads for pedestrians and drivers. Non-mechanical line painters mark out a horizontal and vertical grid with rope dipped into a white chalk. Painted onto the road using a steel jug and a 'painting stick', a tool which has an angled gauzed end-point, is equivalent to a large piece of steel section and functions like the tip of a pen.

Pressed Flat

Statement sentence, repeated, analogous to the labour of language production, and aligned to the inherent association between the visual two dimensional space of the page, and the layered conjunction or leap to the physical world, and how the mind of a body reimagines where it finds itself.

Text by: Kurt Schwitters, who was famed for an engagement in 'Merz' — his own artistic identity.
